I can't say enough about the importance of being remarkable. Seth Godin's Purple Cow is what they should be teaching in online MBA programs and university marketing degrees. Matt Granfield loves it almost as much as I do.
But it's easy to be remarkable when you're product or service isn't good. But that's not the kind of remarkable you want to be.

Rumour has it Purple Cow will be added to required reading lists for Marketing students in the second semester of 2018.
ReplyDeleteDont be to seduced by the puffery of Godin. He has a 1000 ways of saying you need to be different (remarkable). However, there is little substance in strategy ie how to segment the market, identify opportunity and how best to realise that opportunity.
ReplyDeleteHis books are great for what they are - a lot of gleeful inspiration but for a real strategic read get your hands on 'Added Value' or 'Blue Ocean Strategy'
